Part 11: Babies' first trip to Europe!! (London)

On 4/16 I had my first "regular" OB appointment. I spent the next three nights in Georgia for work then on 4/20 I got home...and later that night we left for a 16 day trip to Europe!

I guess Grant and I are those people now...those people who travel overseas twice a year! This trip was, however, not planned...well not in my plan. I was hoping, praying, fighting to earn this incentive trip, but thought I didn't...hence the beginning of our IVF journey in February. This trip, the twins...all of it...was in God's plan. They say we make plans, but they pale in comparison to God's plans. This is that exemplified.

We left Friday, April 20th. I was 10 weeks 3 days pregnant. My Mom was not happy about our decision to travel, but I was given the green light by all of my doctors and could not wait to go! This would most likely be our last major vacation before the twins arrival.

We arrived in London in the morning of Saturday, April 21st. It was a long flight. Grant kept watching movies. I slept...and warned him that we are not napping in London...we'll only be there for 2 nights, so he should be sleeping on the plane. The customs line was forever long. I sat on a bench and let Grant stand and wait for a while. Being tired and 10 weeks pregnant with twins was not a good combination for standing in a long line surrounded by lots of people. A London airport agent came up to me and asked if I was ok. I told her I was just a little bit pregnant with twins and it was hard for me to stand for long periods of time...and just like that Grant and I were escorted to the front of the line! SCORE! I felt kind of bad because I didn't even look pregnant, but I was thrilled to skip that line!

We got our bags and took a taxi to our hotel. This was a far cry from our previous trip to Europe where we took trains, subways, buses...never an expensive taxi. This time, however, I was pregnant and we weren't paying for much of the trip, so we could splurge for taxis. That taxi ride was long...and SO expensive!!!

The hotel was very nice. We were even greeted with a gift of fruit, water, home fragrance and shortbread cookies in our room! Once again a far cry from the barely three star hotels we stayed in on our previous trip. This time we splurged for 5 star "Leading Hotels of the World" hotels. It was amazing.

Here are some photos from our first stop: London

  1. 16 days! That is fantastic - you earned it and I'm so happy you were given the okay to go. Hooray for splurging, too! We've learned it is nice to splurge every now and then.

  3. Score! Gotta love the little perk! The begining is always the worst...you feel aweful but no one can tell you are preggo. I don't know how you traveled while pregnant, I would have been vomitting all over the place! Go You!
